The Fifth Workshop on Biodiversity Conservation & Management successfully organized in SCBG, CAS

 

The Fifth Workshop on Biodiversity Conservation & Management from Nov.13-Nov.27, 2017 Sponsored by Bureau of International Co-operation, Chinese Academy of Sciences was successfully organized in South China Botanical Garden (SCBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Nineteen Participants from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam were invited to join the workshop for biodiversity conservation collaboration and exchange.

Teaching and discussion combined with field work were arranged during the workshop. Seventeen Professors of SCBG, CAS delivered lectures on biodiversity conservation & management, global change, ecological restoration, karst ecosystems, Botanical Arts and etc. aiming at providing the participants with a better understanding of the development of biodiversity conservation in China. All the participants reported their own country biodiversity situation for communication during the workshop. Meanwhile, participants also invited to visit Dongguan Botanical Garden, Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS and Kunming Institute of Zoology, CAS and attend to the 3rd International Symposium of Functional Food and Plant Metabolism for further communication.

China is one of the countries with the rich biodiversity in the world and has enforced policies to biodiversity conservation affiliated with the Global Strategy for plant conservation. Botanical gardens are important bases for scientific research, conservation of biodiversity, development and utilization of resources and now playing important role for living plants collection conservation, evaluation and sustainable utilization. As one of the most important botanical gardens in China, SCBG has made great efforts to conservation and sustainable use biodiversity. More than 100 participants since 2009 have been trained under the leadership of CAS by SCBG. The Workshop has strongly bridged research institutions in China, South America and Southeast Asia.
