Dendrobium is one of the largest genera of orchidaceae in the world, which includes more than 1500 species and more than 80 species in China. Many Dendrobium species have high ornamental value and important medical value, such as Dendrobium officinale, D. huoshanense and D. nobile, etc. In 1970s, Professor Sijun Cheng in South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences began the study of the Dendrobium genus and published the new species D. huoshanense. From the early 1990s, Professor Songjun Zeng in the institution began to systematically introduce, propagation in vitro and cross breeding research of Dendrobium. Especially in recent years, the biotechnology breeding team leaded by Duan Jun deeply explore medicinal Dendrobium and also made significant achievements. In view of our research, Orchids biotechnology expert, Jaime A. Teixeira da Silva invited Professor Songjun Zeng as corresponding author to write series of review papers of Dendrobium. At present, there are six papers were published in international journal of plant sciences including (1)In vitro conservation of Dendrobium germplasm (Plant Cell Reports, 2014, 33:1413-1423),(2)In vitro flowering of Dendrobium (Plant Cell Tissue and Organ Culture, 2014,119:447-456),(3)Dendrobium micropropagation: a review (Plant cell report, 2015, 34:671-704), (4)Symbiotic in vitro seed propagation of Dendrobium: fungal and bacterial partners and their influence on plant growth and development(Planta, 2015, 242:1-22), (5)Asymbiotic in vitro seed propagation of Dendrobium, (Plant Cell Reports, 2015, 34: 1685-1706), (6)Advances in Dendrobium molecular research: Phylogeny, evolution and breeding (Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2015, Accepted).
