On April 30th, South China Botanical Garden (SCBG) held the First Academic Annual Meeting. The meeting was presided by Dr. FU Shenglei, the deputy director of SCBG. Prof. HUANG Hongwen, the director of SCBG, attended the meeting and gave an address to all participants. There were about 100 staff members from six research fields of SCBG attending the meeting.
In this annual meeting, ten academic reports, which were recommended by the six research fields, respectively, were presented. These reports revealed the research highlights in the recent development of scientific research work. The speakers included multi-level researchers, such as principle investigators (PI) from research groups and fields, and postdoctoral researcher and doctoral candidates. The Academic Committee of SCBG gave an integrated evaluation on the reports mainly from four aspects, oral expression ability, academic content and level, response to questions, expression form and visual effect of PPT reports. At last, Dr. LIU Yifei and Dr. LU Xiankai, from Conservation Genetics Research group and Ecosystem Management Research Group, respectively, won the Excellence Award.
The Academic Annual Meeting, as the important part of the construction of academic culture system, is held as an academic exchange platform for SCBG's scientists to show scientific research achievements and levels, academic position, and spiritual styles, and at last to achieve aims of widening vision, exchanging ideas, enlightening wisdom and improving scientific innovation ability. The Academic Annual Meeting will be held once a year since 2010, and the main form is making academic reports. The report candidates will be recommended by research groups, and selected by the research fields; then the Academic Committee will give the final decision on the report candidates, and the evaluation will be conducted in a fair, just and open manner.
