Professor from University of Malaya Visits SCBG

Prof. K. M. WONG from University of Malaya, a famous expert researching bamboo, paid a visit to South China Botanical Garden (SCBG) from February 1 to 21.

 

During the visit, Dr. Wong discussed with Prof. XIA Nianhe, principal investigator of the Research Group of Plant Taxonomy and Plant Resource in SCBG, about the research of bamboo, and signed a cooperative agreement. Dr Wong also visited the special gardens and the herbarium of SCBG. He gave a high appraisal to the collection of bamboo species and praised the Bamboo Garden to be the best special garden in Asia for bamboo collection and protection.

 

On 21 February Dr. Wong presented an academic report titled “unwieldy taxonomic complexes in SE Asian bamboos: some biological and biogeographical perspectives” for the fellows and postgraduate students. He detailedly introduced Rimba Ilmu Botanical Garden of University of Malaya with special reference to its research, nursing and public education.
